When you play a media file on your computer (such as .mpg, .wmv, .avi, and .asf).WMP tracks what video and audio files you’ve opened. It helps to improve the performance the next time the file is opened.

When you are downloading a large video from a website. In the midst of downloading you can play the video .Windows Media Player (WMP) stores certain information (about the clip, length) still the portion of video you have watched. The next time you attempt to view the video, the video will play only to the point where you stopped the download process because that portion of the video is all the cache file thinks the video file consists of.

Here is the Answer to reset the Windows Media Player (WMP) cache.

  1. Go to your Windows Folder
  2. Navigate to C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\microsoft\media index (Windows 2000 or XP only)
  3. Navigate to C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\microsoft\media index) (Windows Me or 98 only)
  4. Delete the wmplibrary_v_0_12.db file.

The next time when WMP creates a cache .A script can be used to delete each time windows starts or or set the cache file attribute to Read Only by opening My Computer, navigating to the cache file, right-clicking the filename, selecting Properties from the context menu, and selecting the Read Only check box.

  • Windows DreamScene is an animated wallpaper technology developed by Microsoft that plays high-definition video content as your wallpaper. The key ability of it is that it can do so without using significant amounts of CPU (basically the decoding of the video is the only real CPU use involved). The animation itself is run through the hardware accelerated DWM.

Dreamscene is only available for Windows Vista Ultimate users, but with this method, it can be made available for anyone with a copy of Windows or MacOS X Tiger. If you have a Mac, scroll down to the bottom of the page.

    SETUP

    1. To install DreamScene , connect to the internet ,click on ‘Security’ in Control Panel and then activate ‘Windows Update’.
    2. Select ‘Search for Updates’ and ‘DisplayAvailiable Updates’.In the ‘Windows Ultimate Tools’ area, select the ‘Windows DreamScene Preview’ option and click on install.Windows will download and install it automatically.
    3. Click on’Restart now’ to complete the installation. To select an animation background , right-click on the free space on the desktop and select ‘Personalize’.
    4. Click ‘Desktop Backgorund’ and open the drop down menu and choose Windows DreamScene Content
    5. After the Setup of ‘DreamScene’ ,you will get an animated sample background.Select it and finally click on ‘OK’. You can also install the ‘Contents packets for Windows DreamScene’. You can use every other video file as a screen saver.

  • How about displaying your website or company logo on your windows XP logon and shutdown screens.
1 . First , we need a tool called resource hacker which is freeware and can be downloaded from soft32.
Read the Editor Reviews : Resource Hacker is a tool for modifying 32 bit applications, DLL, OCX and SCR files. You can “edit” applications by changing dialogs, changing or removing graphics and even removing certain application functionality. I was amazed of the things it can do.

Drawbacks / flaws : Editing applications with ResHacker isn’t a nice and tidy solution and the results of editing an application with ResHacker are sometimes unpredictable.

Conclusion : With ResHacker, you can easily export, modify, rename or delete resources within any executable or DLL.
