Seinfeld & Bill Gates Part Ways

The comedy duo only lasted two commercials, but the haunting memories will last a lifetime. The Three Stooges, Laurel & Hardy, Jerry & Dean, Kenan & Kel (think I covered a wide array of generations), these are comedy teams that did exactly the opposite of Seinfeld and Bill Gates. They made us laugh.

For those few who did enjoy the Circus Shoe store, and The Simple Life spoof commercials this is a sad day. As Microsoft has announced they are moving onto their next phase of advertising, which is going the ’sexual attraction’ route.

Here’s a quote from Chris Flores, from the official Windows Vista Blog…

“So there seems to be the rumor running around that we’re supposedly cancelling our Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld ads tomorrow. I wouldn’t count on anything being “cancelled”. It was always the plan to have Jerry Seinfeld in the first phase of the campaign and not a part of every ad. Instead, our Windows Consumer Campaign is moving into the next phase and we did mention previously that you should expect the campaign to evolve. I’ll direct you to a post by Stuart Elliott of The New York Times to shed some light on what’s next for our ad campaign.

More to come - stay tuned!”

The NYT article mentions Eva Longoria as being one of the celebrities who will be featured in Microsoft’s next wave of commercials. I guess when comedy fails, attract them with Eva Longoria (not complaining btw).

  • Google Hosting Old Newspapers

Ok, so their big TechCrunch announcement wasn’t Google Chrome related, or a real killer app. Instead we got a pretty cool Google feature, that will never be used. Yet, people will be able to point and say “Look at the cool app Google was able to pull off”

I will hand it to Google, their new project is pretty neat and ambitious. I’m just wondering how many people really need to look up old magazine, and newspaper articles. Google has partnered with many publishing companies around the world. Through their effort, Google will be able to post over a million news articles, photos, headlines, and advertisements.

  • Psystar Counter-Sues Apple

If you haven’t read about Psystar, you can catch up here.

When you’re a smaller company and a bigger fish sues you, what’s the best course of action? Well to sue them right back of course. That’s the path that Psystar is taking, for better or worse, as they will be counter suing Apple.

Rudy Pedraza, the owner of Miami based Psystar will be filing a lawsuit based on the Sherman Antitrust Act, and Clayton Antitrust Act. If you’re getting a sense of deja vu, these are the same kind of charges that Microsoft went through during the mid 90’s. When they were accused of being a monopoly. Pedraza’s claim is that Apple is violating these antitrust acts by tying the Mac OS together with Apple hardware.
