The mind doesn’t tend to shift to terrorism when talking about cell phones, and sites like Twitter. I’d say the big generalization for that market is mostly 14/f’s. Although this is false because most adults are getting in on the action as well. We can add another group to this long list in the ‘connected’ world. Terrorists.

In this PDF file, there is a long list of different cell phone, and website technologies that terrorists are already using. If you’re to believe the report.

The first part of the article states how terrorists could be or are using many of the technologies found on current smartphones. The first is the GPS navigation options that many people use when travelling. Only instead of being used for family vacation, it’s being used for terrorist activities.

Other voice technologies that are being reported for terrorist use, are voice changers and the SKYPE service.

Probably the most surprising report was the use of Twitter by some of the terrorist networks. Just like groups that tweet about gardening, or sports, or whatever issue. The article claims there are extremist Twitter groups who are using the service to voice opitions, and concerns with one another.

You can take the report for what you will. They do list references with their claims. Most of them being translations of extremist sites. Read the PDF and decide for yourself.

  • Google Puting Chrome On Android

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I always assumed Androids were chrome (underneath the human exterior). Well it appears that Google’s Android will be getting another polish of Chrome when the mobile OS launches later this month. The HTC Dream is slated to release sometime this year, so Google Android doesn’t have too long before launch.

Common sense would dictate that Google would want to put its new browser ,Chrome, as the standard browser on the Android powered phones.

In case you were still questioning this fact, Sergey Brin co-founder of Google had this to say to Cnet about the marriage, “We have not wanted to bind one’s hands to the other’s…Probably a subsequent version of Android is going to pick up a lot of the Chrome stack…My guess is we’ll have ‘Chrome-like’ or something similar”

The Google Android has had a pretty wacky history going into its release which is rumored to come in October. With its initial delays back earlier in the year. Then Google was being questioned on just how “open” their new OS was going to be. Through it all it looks as though the first Android powered handset is just about ready, as proof through this video:

The HTC Dream is the first phone to be use Android, which is developed by T-Mobile. The biggest question on a lot of people’s mind is how this handset will compete with the iPhone. If at all. It may be early to have the discussions as the official details of the HTC Dream haven’t even been released yet. Going by speculation and rumor, I’d say that Google Android/HTC Dream has a good shot at taking it to Apple’s iPhone. Although some developers have been complaining about a lack of an update for the Android SDK, atleast they are getting one this early. Apple took nearly a year before the iPhone was released before they released a SDK to the public. This initial jump in app development will certainly give the Google Android powered HTC Dream an advantage.

The developers who were complaining, can now rest easy as Google has announced a new SDK. On top of the release, they are actually reaching out to developers to help find bugs in the system, Full Disclosure email.

Google has released a road map for SDK development which can be found here.

It’s entirely too early to even say that Google Android powered handsets will even compete with the iPhone. What can be said is that barring some delays, Google is definitely equipping itself for battle. After watching the video, I’m ready to believe in the HTC Dream, and Google Android.

Some features similar to that of the iPhone had been made for the Nokia’s 8GB N95 smartphone in the latest update. The v15.0.015 firmware firstly adds support for YouTube, which on the iPhone and iPod touch is given a dedicated browser; on the N95 however, users must visit the site through the phone’s web browser. The update also finally lets N95 owners run web widgets, which are present on the iPhone in the form of the Weather and Stocks applications.
