The mind doesn’t tend to shift to terrorism when talking about cell phones, and sites like Twitter. I’d say the big generalization for that market is mostly 14/f’s. Although this is false because most adults are getting in on the action as well. We can add another group to this long list in the ‘connected’ world. Terrorists.
In this PDF file, there is a long list of different cell phone, and website technologies that terrorists are already using. If you’re to believe the report.
The first part of the article states how terrorists could be or are using many of the technologies found on current smartphones. The first is the GPS navigation options that many people use when travelling. Only instead of being used for family vacation, it’s being used for terrorist activities.
Other voice technologies that are being reported for terrorist use, are voice changers and the SKYPE service.
Probably the most surprising report was the use of Twitter by some of the terrorist networks. Just like groups that tweet about gardening, or sports, or whatever issue. The article claims there are extremist Twitter groups who are using the service to voice opitions, and concerns with one another.
You can take the report for what you will. They do list references with their claims. Most of them being translations of extremist sites. Read the PDF and decide for yourself.

I finally decided to write a comment on your blog. I just wanted to say good job. I really enjoy reading your posts.
Twitter: The Micro-Blogging tool that has taken the web by storm. How great it is to keep your associates informed and uptodate on your activities, movements and intentions – nicely packaged up semi-anonymously. Twitter is becoming a tool of choice for sharing knowledge, collaborating and working towards a common goal. But not necessarily for business, according to the US Army, as reported Breitbart.com.
I like Twitter as a business tool as it is a quick and simple way of disseminating news, views and updates – it creates personal presence which enables me to build closer relationships with colleagues and customers. Twitter, like LinkedIn, Facebook, etc builds up my external profile and personal brand. These tools also enable and promote activism, where users band together, often behind a united cause such as influencing the taste of Coke or improving cellphone services. Is it a potential tool for terrorists? Well, I guess if activism behind extreme causes is just as likely – these tools aren’t politically astute, unless we make them that way. The usual method is monitoring. Like phone-tapping, email snooping, etc. I expect Twitter is monitored. How do you feel about that?
It wasn’t that long ago that I considered the effect of social platforms inside an organization and that company-wide activism and socialism can take effect unless policies or rules are put in place. How is this different in the wider world? I don’t think it is, unfortunately. Is the price of freedom of speech the necessity to monitor?
