A few days ago, it was made official that Microsoft would stop production of the HD-DVD attachments for the Xbox 360. Once that was announced, the internet began a buzzin’ about future plans for the Blu-Ray format coming to the 360.

In a report released by Tech Kills, it was announced by Ballmer that PC’s would start providing driver support for Blu-Ray. Ballmer states, “We’ve already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like, and I think the world moves on”

Once this was announced, it was then reported by Financial Times that execs from Sony and Microsoft were having talks about bringing Blu-Ray to the 360.

It looks to be that the Financial Times’ report was wrong (atleast for the time being). Aaron Greenberg, Xbox 360 Product Manager,  told Reuters that as of now there is no plan to release any kind of Blu-Ray add on to the 360. Greenberg says, “Microsoft, which has stopped making an HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox 360, would continue to invest in its Xbox Live online service that already lets users rent hundreds of movies, including ones in high-definition.”

So it looks for now that 360 owners are without an option in terms of a HD disk format. If all else fails, you can continue to watch the Matrix on your HD-DVD attachment (if you already haven’t tried to sell it on E-Bay).
