An extremely flexible surgical robot, called the i-Snake, which should revolutionise keyhole surgery is being developed by experts. It helps surgeons to perform complex tasks that were possible only through more tough techniques. A team at Imperial College, London, has been provided a £2.1 million ($4.2 million) permit to work on the device, which will be an elongated tube with a series of motors, sensors and imaging tools.
The benefits of such procedures against traditional surgery are numerous; patients have a reduced recovery time and incisions are rarely sizable.
Dr Ted Bianco, director of technology transfer at the Wellcome Trust, said: “Gone are the days when the surgeon’s knife ruled in the operating theatre. The future of surgery is in smart devices like i-Snake.” said by Dr Ted Bianco.
Let’s hope this works!. Wishing them Luck.
