Windows XP Shutdown

If your system is taking a lot of time to shutdown, then - This tutorial is for you . Did you know that Windows XP keeps a couple of values in its registry which determines how long to wait before shutting down open applications and services once the shutdown command has been given . There are two settings and converting them to lower values , you can decrease the amount of time that Windows XP needs to properly shut itself down . Here are a couple of steps you can take to speed up the shutdown process:

Step 1
  1. Open regedit and goto ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\’
  2. Select the ‘WaitToKillAppTimeout’ value.
  3. Change it to ‘1000?.
  4. Next select the ‘HungAppTimeout’ valu.
  5. Change it to ‘1000? also.
Step 2
  1. Open regedit and goto ‘HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\ControlPanel\Desktop’
  2. Select the ‘WaitToKillAppTimeout’ value.
    Changet it to ‘1000?.
    Next Select the ‘HungAppTimeout’ value.
    Change it to ‘1000? also.
Step 3
  1. Open regedit and goto ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\’
  2. Select the value ‘WaitToKillServiceTimeout’

Note : Please be careful when editing the Registry; you can do a lot of damage here. Don’t change or delete anything unless you know exactly what it is.
